Vintage WWII Whittingslowe No.24 Australian Military Folding Clasp Knife

Crafted during a time of great need and innovation, the Whittingslowe No.24 is a genuine piece of military history. This vintage WWII Australian military folding clasp knife is a testament to the enduring design and utility of the era. Its carbon steel blade, paired with a robust steel handle, ensures this knife is both a collector's item and a functional tool, suitable for a variety of situations.
With a manual opening mechanism and a slipjoint lock, the knife provides a secure grip and easy handling. The inclusion of a screw driver, marking spike, and bottle opener multiplies its practicality. Its sheepsfoot blade type and plain edge ensure clean cuts, while the silver colour adds a classic touch to this piece from the 1940s, originating from the United Kingdom.

Features:
Manufacturer: Made by Whittingslowe Engineering, a company based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Design: Built as a multi-tool utility knife for the military, featuring a main blade, a can opener, and a marlinspike for rope work.
Materials: Constructed with steel handle scales and a characteristic copper bail (lanyard ring) at the end.
Function: The inner metal liner is shaped to double as a flathead screwdriver.

Dating Evidence:
The First Pattern Design: The No. 24 stamp identifies this as Whittingslowe's "First Pattern" design. It features a traditional British-style can opener rather than the uniquely patented Australian lever-style opener introduced later in 1945.

The Copper Bail: Pre-war and early-war variations utilized a copper lanyard loop (bail). As copper became a strategic material tightly rationed for the war effort, manufacturers across the Commonwealth shifted entirely to steel bails by 1944. The copper bail on your knife indicates it is an earlier production piece from the 1940–1942 window.
