UP FOR SALE IS A "RARE" VINTAGE MARLIN SPIKE MILITARY CLASP KNIFE WW1 1915 PATTERN 6353/1905 AND ACCORDING TO BERNARD LEVINE'S GUIDE TO KNIVES 3RD EDITION PAGE172. HE SAYS THE E.C. SIMMONS (KEEN KUTTER) MILITARY KNIFE WAS A CONTRACT KNIFE MADE BY CAMILLUS IN 1915 FOR AN ALLIED NAVY ( FRENCH OR CANADIAN) 4 7/8" CLOSED CHECKERED BLACK COMPOSITION HANDLES. MAIN SPEAR BLADE IS TANG STAMPED E.C. SIMMONS KEEN CUTTER ST. LOUIS MO. U.S.A.THE CAN OPENER BLADE IS STAMPED OIL THE JOINTS HAS THE HEAVY COPPER BAIL. AND THE MARLINE SPIKE BLADE.THIS IS A VERY COLLECTABLE, AND SELDOM FOUND MILITARY CLASP KNIFE.

Model Identity & History :
The Military Contract: In 1915, the E.C. Simmons Hardware Company secured a military contract to supply these heavy-duty rigging knives to Allied naval forces (primarily the Canadian and French Navies) during World War I.

The Real Manufacturer: While branded under the Keen Kutter name, the knives were actually contract-manufactured in 1915 by the Camillus Cutlery Company in New York to fulfil the high wartime demand.
Features :
The Blades: It features a thick carbon steel main spear blade, a locking marlin spike used for splicing rope, and a short scraper/can opener blade stamped with the historical instruction "OIL THE JOINTS".
The Handle & Hardware: It utilizes checkered black composition handles and carries a heavy copper bail (lanyard loop) at the base.
